First we had the Agricultural Revolution. Then the Industrial Revolution. All leading up to the "Delusional Revolution"
"The delusional revolution is my term for the development of sophisticated propaganda techniques in the 20th century (especially a highly emotive, image-based advertising system) that have produced in the bulk of the population (especially in First World societies) a distinctly delusional state of being. Even those of us who try to resist it often can't help but be drawn into parts of the delusion. As a culture, we collectively end up acting as if unsustainable systems can be sustained because we want them to be. Much of the culture's storytelling - particularly through the dominant storytelling institution, the mass media - remains committed to maintaining this delusional state. In such a culture, it becomes hard to extract oneself from that story."

The ego-self must make compromises with hell in order to extract some degree of comfort from a very uncomfortable 'existence.'
Some will deny this and claim that life is very comfortable indeed, "why, I've got my good job, wonderful family, nice house with a comfy couch and all sorts of pleasurable things to watch on my HDTV."
However, what we tend to deny, in each and every moment, is that we could cease to exist, at any moment, and this is the definition of hell.
But who could 'live' based on that definition? Therefore, we delude ourselves by making compromises. The compromise is that I must not consider that I could expire at any moment so, instead, "look at all the pretty flowers!"
Thus, modern culture, in its need to compromise with death, has deluded us into thinking that we actually "live"! (and look at all the ways we define "living" like being spiritual, making money, having a big pickup, marble countertops, paved driveways, taking vacations, pretty nails, eating at McDonalds, etc, etc.)
Well, that's enough doom and gloom for today. Time to watch Oprah! (maybe she'll have Eckhart Tolle on and I can finally learn the secret to "awakening")
