As a human being we have a most important choice to make in each moment of life. We can choose to gain confidence in awareness. If we choose brief moments of awareness, we increasingly enjoy soothing energy and a balanced view.
The short moment grows longer and longer until it is automatic. If we don’t choose awareness, we find ourselves on a roller coaster ride of thoughts, emotions and other experiences.
Points of view that appear within awareness include thoughts, emotions, sensations and other experiences. We either emphasize awareness or emphasize point of view. When we emphasize points of view, we forget how to relax; we forget how to rely on awareness.
Awareness contains all points of view. Just as colors are inseparable from a rainbow, points of view are inseparable from awareness.
Simply stated, short moments of awareness are soothing, and constant emphasis on points of view is uncomfortable.
Relying on awareness is made easy in the following way: Short moments of awareness, repeated many times, become automatic. "Short moments" is to cultivate many moments of awareness, many times, until it becomes automatic and permanent. Then there is no need to rely on short moments any longer.
When we stop trying to control the natural flow of points of view and simply rely on awareness, we experience powerful clarity and a balanced view. We realize that all points of view have their origin in awareness and that no point of view can be found to exist in its own right.
By the power of a short moment of awareness, we directly experience freedom from ups and downs. We begin to have a balanced outlook. We are better able to be of benefit to ourselves, family, community and world. When we rely on awareness, we tap into our innate strengths, gifts and talents and contribute
them to the benefit of all.
